Wild Nature

"Our imaginative affinities with the natural world are a crucial ecological bond, as essential to us as our material needs for air and water and photosynthesising plants."
Richard Mabey, quoted in Losing Eden by Lucy Jones

Landscape painting speaks inevitably to ecological decline. Every view of nature is a view of something lost or in transition to being lost. Abundance is a memory or a flight of the imagination. My paintings are of a thing in decline, but nevertheless a thing still full of power.
